Ok, I admit that I am old. How old will remain one of life's mysteries, unless I decide to tell. Even at my age, I still enjoy learning. I hope to continue to learn until my mind gives out on me. Well, he is blathering again I hope he gets to the point, if there is one.
There is a point. This summer I started taking a series of online classes. A new experience for me. It is an asynchronous class so I work on the assignments when I want to and the way I want to. It has been a great experience for me in that I have not done this before, and the structure allows me to work when I want to, day or night.
Now for the rest of the story. The class is in preparation for completing a certification on using technology in teaching. Most of my peers would think, "no problem for him because he is so tech savvy." Or so I thought. It turns out that I am not as savvy as I can be. So I have had to work my tail off to get a handle on what I needed to do and what I need to learn to get better.
This has been an interesting experience and I have learned a great deal. It is more important as I noted in one of my class journal entries that, "I now know what I don't know, and more importantly I know where and how to learn it." As I remind my students regularly, "Ignorance can be fixed. Ignorance just means you don't know." All of us can be taught.
